Republicans Poised for Gains
Last Updated on Tuesday, 3 November 2009 10:31 Written by rslcpol Tuesday, 3 November 2009 10:31
From the Wall Street Journal:
Democrats and Republicans are jostling to glean messages from voters in a race for a U.S. House seat in far northern New York, as well as from contests for governor in New Jersey and Virginia. Republicans, increasingly optimistic, say the contests foreshadow trouble for President Barack Obama and the Democratic Party’s ambitious agenda heading toward the 2010 congressional elections.
“We will be looking very closely at the results in these three races and reminding Democrats of the message they send about the agenda that they are forcing on American taxpayers,” said Paul Lindsay, a spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee, which coordinates GOP House races.

New Majority – Clean Sweep for Conservatives
Last Updated on Friday, 30 October 2009 01:24 Written by rslcpol Friday, 30 October 2009 01:24
From the NewMajority:
As John McLaughlin says at the end of every show “Predictions!” We are one week from the first elections of the Obama era. The key (and virtually only races) are to be found in Virginia, New Jersey and New York’s 23rd Congressional District.
In Virginia, Attorney General Bob McDonnell is running for Governor against Creigh Deeds who he beat for his current position four years ago by less than 400 votes. Current Lt. Governor Bill Bolling is running for that position again, making a great sacrifice for party unity in so doing. He is opposed by Jody Wagner. Finally, current State Senator Ken Cuccinelli (R) is facing off against my state representative Steve Shannon (D).
In New Jersey, the premier fight is between incumbent Democrat John Corzine and Republican Chris Christie with former liberal Republican Chris Daggett also running. The Lt. Governor in NJ runs on the ticket with the Governor.

South Carolina Lt. Governor Running for Governor
Last Updated on Friday, 30 October 2009 11:58 Written by rslcpol Friday, 30 October 2009 11:58
From The State:
In a sure sign Andre Bauer is running for governor, the two-term, Republican lieutenant governor Thursday opened a campaign bank account and filed paperwork with the State Ethics Commission.
“He’s one of the most underestimated politicians in South Carolina, and he’s one of the most likable,” said former S.C. GOP chairman Katon Dawson, who has not endorsed a candidate. “This is a guy who’s always fought the odds. He’s a scrapper.
“I’d hate to run against him.”
Campaign consultant, Chris LaCivita said Bauer, who recently moved his legal residence to Greenville, will make a formal announcement soon.

Republican Lt. Gov. Brad Little will be touring Idaho Oct. 30, part of a series of campaign events in three cities where the Emmett rancher will formally announce he’s running to win his current post.
In an e-mail Tuesday, Little named four former lieutenant governors – current Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter, U.S. Sen. Jim Risch, Jack Riggs and Mark Ricks, all Republicans – as honorary campaign leaders.
The 55-year-old former state senator said he’ll hold $25-per-ticket receptions in Boise, Idaho Falls and Coeur d’Alene to mark the start of his campaign.

Alaska Republican Jumps into Lt. Governor Race
Last Updated on Wednesday, 21 October 2009 10:30 Written by rslcpol Wednesday, 21 October 2009 10:30
From Alaska Politics Blog:
Jay Ramras put out a press release this morning to announce his plan to run for lieutenant governor in next year’s election. He is the second Republican to get into the race, the other being Craig Campbell, who is currently filling in the position.
No Democrats have yet announced plans to run for lieutenant governor.
There was some speculation that Les Gara might, but he told me that’s not so.
Ramras, a three term state representative from Fairbanks, has been highly critical of the Palin/Parnell administration and its approach to pursuing a natural gas pipeline. He’s coming by the Daily News in a minute and I’ll ask him about why he wants to try and be lieutenant governor.

Republicans Continue to Lead in Virginia
Last Updated on Tuesday, 20 October 2009 01:46 Written by rslcpol Tuesday, 20 October 2009 01:46
From HamptonRoads.com:
A new poll shows Republican Bob McDonnell continues to have a strong lead over Democrat Creigh Deeds but also indicates that a large bloc of undecided voters, including many women, blacks and Democrats, have yet to make up their minds as the Nov. 3 election draws near.
McDonnell, a former attorney general, was ahead by a double-digit margin of 45 percent to Deeds’ 31 percent. However, one in five – 22 percent – say they’re undecided.
The statewide survey, conducted by the Judy Ford Wason Center for Public Policy at Christopher Newport University, also found that McDonnell’s 1989 graduate school thesis, which criticized working mothers and homosexuals, did not affect most people’s view of him.

KY: Dem Lt. Governor Accuses Dem Attorney General for Secret Tapes
Last Updated on Tuesday, 20 October 2009 01:41 Written by rslcpol Tuesday, 20 October 2009 01:41
From Kentucky.com:
Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo’s campaign for U.S. Senate is accusing Democratic rival Jack Conway’s aides of helping to produce controversial anonymous recordings of Mongiardo.
Mongiardo campaign spokesman Kim Geveden said Monday that Conway’s campaign is “neck deep in political dirty tricks.”
“Conway’s campaign either produced the political attack video that was posted anonymously to a YouTube page on Oct. 7 or it was directly or indirectly involved in its production,” Geveden said Monday.
