NJ: Reality TV Star for Lt. Governor?

From the New Jersey Herald:

Reality TV star Randal Pinkett says he’ll consider running for lieutenant governor in New Jersey when — and if — an offer is made.

The season 4 “Apprentice” winner told The Associated Press Wednesday he had met with Gov. Jon Corzine, but the governor has not asked him to be his running mate.

“I am extremely honored to be among the people he is considering to join the ticket,” said Pinkett, an African-American businessman who co-chaired Newark Mayor Cory Booker’s transition team. “The governor did not offer me the lieutenant governorship. My family and I reserve the right, if it were to be offered, that I would then decide whether this is the right time for me to enter public life.”

NY: Lt. Governor Can Stay… For Now

From the Polit Bureau:

State Sen. Dean Skelos, who is leading the charge against the Ravitch appointment saw it differently. He responded by saying the governor might have “bought himself a little time,” but that the courts would ultimately rule in his favor.

Both sides expect the final decision to be made by the Court of Appeals, which is New York’s highest court.

Ravitch’s appointment became a bit less dramatic after state Sen. Pedro Espada rejoined the Democratic caucus earlier this month, thus breaking the 31-31 tie that had led to a month of inactivity in the chamber.

Texas: Who’s Running and Who’s Not in 2010

From El Paso Inc.:

On the Republican side, many are waiting to see if Sen. Hutchison will resign her Senate seat to run for governor against Perry.

And if she does, who will line up to campaign for her job in the Senate? One possibility is Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, which makes many in Austin wonder if Attorney General Greg Abbott would then run to replace Dewhurst. And who would run to replace Abbott?

Some aren’t standing by and waiting. A former solicitor general, Republican Ted Cruz, says he’s running for attorney general as long as Abbott doesn’t seek re-election. Reports say that Cruz has already raised more than $1 million. Rep. Dan Branch (R-Dallas) has also said he might consider running.
