GA LG Wants State Jet Sold to Help Balance Budget

From the Augusta Chronicle:

Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle said Tuesday that Georgia should put one of its airplanes on the auction block, arguing the sale would bring in more than $1 million to help offset state budget woes.

Mr. Cagle said the 1984 Cessna Citation jet is the least active in the state Transportation Department’s seven-plane fleet and is “rarely used.”

“If this is the case considering our state is in need to cut expenses, please move forward in selling this plane,” Mr. Cagle wrote to state Transportation Board Chairman Bill Kuhlke in a letter obtained by The Associated Press.

Public Opinion Strategies – Not All Quiet on the Western Front

From POS.org:

The West proved to be a pivotal battleground n the 2008 elections, both at the presidential level and in the success of Democrats to boost their majorities in the House and Senate.  Yet, current polling data seems to indicate that Western voters may be laggards when it comes to their support of all things Democrat.

Mood of the West
The mood of Western voters has not rebounded as quickly or to the extent it has in other parts of the country.  While the nation’s mood improved from 11% right direction/76% wrong track pre-election to 31% right direction/63% wrong track in current data, Western voters only registered a 23% right direction/67% wrong track – a significant difference.

TN: Dem Governor on Defensive about Tax Break ‘Political Maneuver’

From The Daily Times:

Gov. Phil Bredesen insists he isn’t “playing any games” by linking his proposal to close a tax break for family-owned rental properties with keeping more than 300 public safety jobs on the state payroll.

Bredesen calls the tax break an unfair loophole, and projects the state could collect $25 million a year if it were eliminated. In his budget presented to lawmakers Monday, the Democratic governor said that money would be used to pay for preventing prosecutors, public defenders and highway patrolmen from losing their jobs.

“We just tied it to something that we thought ought to be restored with recurring funds over a much longer period of time,” he said.

AR: ‘Clinton vs Halter’ A Primary in 2010 LG Race?

From Arkansas News:

I see from Blake Kinkade’s blog — uh, I mean Blake Rutherford’s — that a prospect has arisen that a young man named Tyler Denton might wage a Democratic primary challenge to Bill Halter’s re-election as lieutenant governor next time, in 2010.

Since this information comes from the son of the Clinton school dean and Denton has close ties to former President Clinton and the Clinton Foundation, which the Clinton School dean formerly headed, I’m offereng an educated guess that this suggests some continuing animus among Clinton insiders toward Halter for, oh, I don’t know, cashing in on his own Clinton connections or daring to challenge Mike Beebe if only for a few days or, well, having a mind, and a good one, of his own.

Tea Party in Missouri

From ConnectMidMissouri.com:

Protestor Kirk Arnold said, “If we get involved, it’s got to grow. It’s got to start here in our communities. We’ve got to make a difference and make sure Washington hears us.”

Similar tea parties have taken place at other cities across the country. Only time will tell whether the president realizes there are some Americans who think big government is not their cup of tea.

Other state officials like Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder, a spokesman for Republican Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer and former Columbia State Rep. Ed Robb addressed the crowd at the protest.
