Tennessee LG Ramsey Exploring Run for Governor

The latest in chatter about Lieutenant Governor Ron Ramsey potentially running for Governor.

From Nashville Post Politics:

And Ken Whitehouse says he’s looking to make it officially unofficial by setting up an exploratory committee:

According to state law, Ramsey is not allowed to raise campaign funds while the legislature is in session. But speculation would be that calls are being made now in order to encourage potential donors not to commit to any of the other Republican gubernatorial candidates.

Governors on the Fence Sideline other Candidates

From CQ Politics:

As governors in Florida and Kansas ponder their next political moves, would-be candidates in those states remain in limbo.

Republican Charlie Crist of Florida and Democrat Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas would find competition from within their parties melt away if they decide to run for the Senate in 2010.

Elsewhere, Wyoming Gov. Dave Freudenthal , a Democrat, and Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty , a Republican, are keeping would-be successors waiting by failing to say whether they want to run for re-election.

IL: The Silence of the Dems

You’ve got to read this piece from the Tribune.  It’s just perfect.  From Chicago Tribune:

By what he said and what he chose not to say, Roland Burris lied his way into the United States Senate. Our questions, then, for leaders of Burris’ Democratic Party:

Sen. Dick Durbin, Sen. Harry Reid, Mayor Richard Daley, Gov. Pat Quinn, Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan, Illinois Senate President John Cullerton, Atty. Gen. Lisa Madigan, Secretary of State Jesse White, Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias—what’s your moral calculus here?

• Do you think it’s acceptable for someone to take a Senate seat by lies of commission and of omission? That is, by saying what isn’t true—and by declining to say what is?

Former GOP State Senator Turned Dem LG about to become Democrat Governor

Enough to make your head spin and pop off.  But, it might not happen if there’s more like this out there on the current Democrat Governor.  From KansasCity.com:

Fifteen years ago, Mark Parkinson became a rising star in Kansas politics. A Republican state senator mentioned as a future governor or a U.S. senator.

Ambitious. Smart. Not afraid of standing out.

But Parkinson, who’s from Olathe, turned his back on politics 13 years ago and became a businessman. He and his wife, Stacy, raised three children and developed a successful chain of nursing homes. He stayed involved behind the scenes, even serving as state GOP chairman.

IL: Burris – ‘Put a good word in for me to the LG’

Does this guy last the weekend?  Did he really make all of these contacts trying to get this job?  Look, nobody’s faulting him for expressing his interest, they’re hitting him on not being forthcoming.  As they in DC – it’s not the crime, it’s the cover up.  And the way this one just keeps drip, drip, drip, dripping out ain’t good…unless you’re Roland Burris’s political opponents – which now includes many of his former political allies.  From the Examiner:

Former Blagojevich administration chief operating officer John Filan said Burris also called after Blagojevich’s Dec. 9 arrest on federal corruption charges, during which Burris asked Filan to put in a good word with then Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn in the event Quinn became governor, the Chicago Tribune reports in Friday’s editions. Filan said he didn’t do that.

Burris’ contact with Filan was not mentioned in the first affidavits about how he got the job that was filed with state lawmakers.
