Delaware Republican Outpaces Democrat in Fundraising for LG race

From Delaware Online:

Republican Charlie Copeland outraised his opponent for lieutenant governor, Matt Denn, by more than 2-to-1 and outspent him by about $78,000 since January, but the Democrat will enter the last stretch of the campaign with more than $100,000 more cash on hand.

Both candidates filed finance reports Monday for the first time since January, showing large differences in their fundraising for this year.

Copeland reported he raised $393,757 since April, when he received his first donation of the year. He began the year with $84,965 left over from his state Senate fundraising.

GOP LG Says McCain Will Help Republicans in Tennessee

From the Chattanooga Times Free Press:

“This is the most important election in our lifetime,” Lt. Gov. Ramsey said Monday to the Hamilton County Pachyderm Club, a Republican group.

Sen. McCain, R-Ariz., led U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., in the presidential race in Tennessee by 16 points in a Chattanooga Times Free Press poll conducted in late September. But Wade Munday, spokesman for the Tennessee Democratic Party, said the presidential race won’t have an effect on other races.

“To think that there’s a presidential coattail effect in Tennessee is grasping at straws,” he said.

Neither party now has control in the Tennessee Senate, which consists of 16 Democrats, 16 Republicans and one independent.

VT: GOP LG Hits Campaign Trail

From the Bennington Banner:

With about five weeks to go before Election Day, Republican Lt. Gov. Brian Dubie has taken to the road, where he says he will talk to Vermonters about his record over the past six years. Dubie, known for his laid-back approach to campaigning, officially announced this week his intention to seek a fourth term as Vermont’s second-in-command.

The announcement was certainly not a surprise, but was delayed when the American Airlines pilot and member of the Air Force Reserve was deployed to Florida earlier this month to help with Hurricane Ike relief.

Dubie said the economy and how Vermonters will pay to heat their homes are the major issues on the minds of voters. According to Dubie, the state is well positioned to weather a poor economic outlook because of an “unmet need for housing” that “will help drive economy.”

Three States Weigh Calls for New Charters

From Stateline:

Hawaii is one of three states — along with Connecticut and Illinois — where voters will decide this year whether to convene constitutional conventions. The question is on the ballot in all three states automatically, because their state charters specify that voters decide whether to hold new conventions at set intervals.

The gatherings could write whole new state charters or suggest major changes for public review. But voters would have to approve any changes.

NC: Dem LG Losing Ground in Bid for Top Office

It looks like things are going down hill for outgoing Democrat L.G. Beverly in her bid to become Governor.  What’s worse (for Perdue!), Republican L.G. nominee Robert Pittenger’s campaign is hitting all of its marks and setting up for a big win in Novemer to replace Bev Perdue.  Losing some big-mo at this stage of the race is bad news not only for Perdue and Robert Pittenger’s opponent, but the rest of the Democrat ticket as well.  What’s next, GOP AG nominee Bob Crumley turning up the heat on Demorat incumbent A.G. Roy Cooper?  Yep.  From Red Clay Citizen:

There is still a high number of undecided voters, but it appears neither candidate can break through the low 40s.  The polling for this race has been shockingly consistent, with very little fluctuation.

May – Perdue 43, McCrory 42
June – Perdue 43, McCrory 41, Munger 2
July – Perdue 43, McCrory 40, Munger 2
August – Perdue 43, McCrory 41, Munger 3
September – Perdue 41, McCrory 43, Munger 3

MO: LG Race Heating Up

From Newsvine:

Kinder and Page have accused each other of shielding records from public scrutiny, slashing health care and twisting the truth.

“I suit up with a chin strap on tight and I come to play,” Kinder explained in an interview.

Through 12 years in the state Senate, Kinder earned a reputation as a bulldog. But as a lawmaker and lieutenant governor, he also has bridged party and regional differences to occasionally work with political opponents.

MO: Politics Driving Up TV Ad Prices

Just a fact of t.v. advertising life here.  From Springfield Business Jounral:

How exactly is demand affecting local TV ad rates?

An organizer of a smaller campaign hoping to reach Greene County voters before the Nov. 4 general election said recent rates quoted for 30-second spots were outrageous.

“We don’t have the fundraising ability of Obama and McCain, but that’s who the TV market is going to be saturated with and we know that,” said Morey Mechlin, a member of Greene Countians for Fair and Impartial Judges. “We can’t afford to compete. … TV is the way to reach a lot of people, and we’re not going to have that ability with the pricing the way it is.”

NC: LG Candidates Clash at Debate

If you don’t know Republican L.G. nominee Robert Pittenger, you should.  His plan is to bring the long sought after reform of responsible growth and spending to North Carolina state government.  Truly, a future leader.  From BlueRidgeNow:

Republican Robert Pittenger, who resigned from his third term in the Senate in May to campaign, criticized Democrat Sen. Walter Dalton for voting to increase the state budget and debt during an hour-long televised debate.

Pittenger pegged himself as a reformer who will stop the “incredible waste of our tax dollars” – a clear knock on Dalton, who is one of the Democrats’ lead budget-writers in the Senate.

“State government’s gotten too big, spends too much, doesn’t give taxpayers what they really deserve,” Pittenger said.
