Accordion Player With a Business Card
Last Updated on Friday, 15 September 2006 02:51 Written by rslcpol Friday, 15 September 2006 02:51
You’ve the heard the one about the ultimate optimist – the pipe
flute player with a stack of business cards.
Here’s a new one – the
Nevada L.G. candidate trailing 14 pts 52 days out from Election Day.
In the
lieutenant governor's race, Democrat Bob Unger trailed Republican Brian Krolicki by 14
points, 44 percent to 30 percent, in the poll sponsored by the Reno
Gazette-Journal and KRNV-TV. The poll had a margin of error of 4 percentage
points.
But
Unger said he's pleased with the poll because he's still fundraising and hasn't
yet started campaigning.
“I'm
pleasantly surprised with the number,” said Unger, a Henderson developer.
“I haven't even started to get my message out. I'm still in the campaign
fundraising mode. When I start to get my message out, we are really going to
close it up.”

Dueling SC LG Polls
Last Updated on Friday, 15 September 2006 02:49 Written by rslcpol Friday, 15 September 2006 02:49
I love it when campaigns
release their own internal polls. I love it even more when dueling
campaign have inexplicably differing polls.
The
first poll released by the Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor shows
challenger Robert Barber holding a slight lead over Republican incumbent Andre
Bauer.
According
to a poll conducted by Alabama-based Anzalone-Liszt, Barber, a Charleston
restaurateur, lobbyist and former state legislator, holds a 44-41 percent lead
over Bauer. The poll's 3.7-percentage-point margin of error makes the race a
statistical dead heat…
But
Bauer supporters questioned those figures, noting their own polling completed
this week showed Bauer holding a 51-39 lead with a 4.4 percent margin of error.
“It's
not true,” said Rod Shealy, Bauer's campaign manager. “That poll is
not accurate, nor is it even close. There's zero chance these polls are 15
points apart.”

RI and VT LG Recap

Rhode
Island LG
Retired Military Man Wins Republican Primary For Lieutenant
Governor
PROVIDENCE,
R.I. (AP) — A retired military man wins the Republican primary for lieutenant
governor.
Reginald
Centracchio entered the race at the last minute, but he still won by 67 percent,
or approximately 36-thousand, 400 votes.
He beat
businessman Kerry King, who earned about 33 percent of the vote.
Centracchio
recently retired as the commander of the Rhode Island National Guard. Several
voters said they chose him because of his military experience.
The
race put Republican Governor Carcieri in an awkward spot. In the past, he
couldn't find enough Republicans to run for lieutenant governor. This year, he
got too many.
Carcieri
originally recruited King to run for the post, then backed off when Centracchio
suddenly entered the race.
He will
face Democrat Elizabeth Roberts in the general election.
Vermont LG
Vermont’s Brian Dubie knew who one of his General Election
opponents was going into yesterday’s primary – now he
knows who both of em are.
State
Sen. Matt Dunne appeared to be leading in the polls late Tuesday night. With
183 of 260 precincts reporting, Dunne had 58 percent of the vote, to 42 percent
for Tracy.
The
campaign to see who would be the Democratic candidate to challenge Republican
Lt. Gov. Brian Dubie was one of the few races in the primary that was hard to
predict, as two legislators who differ more in style than policy fought for the
chance at a seat whose main duty is presiding over the state Senate.
Though in truth, L.G. Dubie probably isn’t so concerned about who
his opponents in Vermont are as much as he’s concerned about whom his
opponents in Kirkuk are.
Lt. Gov. Brian Dubie has been
deployed to Iraq, serving as a member of the U.S. Air Force Reserve on a field
assessment team on a short-term assignment, according to the Air Force.
How’s that for perspective.
In the AGs race Dennis Carver
defeated Kerin Kerin.

Campaigns Are About Telling Stories
Last Updated on Tuesday, 29 August 2006 06:14 Written by rslcpol Tuesday, 29 August 2006 06:14
And Massachusetts Republican Gubernatorial candidate Lt. Governor Kerry Healey has a great life story to wrap her campaign around.
Most voters seem to know that Healey is a woman of wealth, but she was quick to point out things were not always easy.
“My mom was a public school teacher, and my dad was in the military and later worked as a real estate broker. We had periods of unemployment in our family. We had periods when my dad was disabled and could never work again. After I was 15 years old, he had a serious heart attack. I worked from the time I was 15. My husband and I started with nothing. We had school debt. We didn't have any money to start out with, but we had our education. We had the love of our family, and we knew we would be able to work hard,” Healey said.

Why do we call them America's future leaders
Last Updated on Tuesday, 29 August 2006 01:37 Written by rslcpol Tuesday, 29 August 2006 01:37
Because they are.
Outgoing Republican Lt. Governor Mary Fallin is on track to be elected to the United States Congress in the 5th District in Oklahoma.
As if that’s not enough, if she is elected, as she is widely expected to do, she’ll be just the 2nd woman to represent Oklahoma in Congress.
Fallin won her primary runoff with 63% of the vote.
She faces Democrat David Hunter, and Independent candidate Matthew Woodson in November’s General Election.
Here’s a deeper profile piece from the Tulsa World on Fallin’s race.

Hip Hop Mogul Russell Simmons has endorsed Republican Lieutenant Governor Michael Steele’s candidacy for the United States Senate in Maryland this week. Steele is only the second Republican ever endorsed by the “godfather of hip-hop”. Simmons, along with Cathy Hughes, founder and chairman of Radio One, a black run broadcasting company, hosted a fundraiser and grassoots event for the Lt. Governors campaign.

OK LG Ballot is set
Last Updated on Wednesday, 23 August 2006 01:55 Written by rslcpol Wednesday, 23 August 2006 01:55
Congratulations to Republican House Speaker Todd Hiett on winning yesterday’s Republican primary runoff to secure his party’s nomination for Lieutenant Governor. Hiett will face House Democrat Minority Leader Jari Askins and local independent candidate E.Z. Millions in the November 7th General Election.
The Oklahoma L.G.s race is proving to be the most expensive in Oklahoma history – more than $2 million has already been spent by Republican and Democrat candidates in this race.
Many state political leaders consider the race the most important of the 2006 cycle because of the lieutenant governor's role as president of the Senate.
Democrats currently hold a 26-22 majority in the state Senate. Republicans — who have never controlled the body — are seeking to break the majority. In case of a tie, the lieutenant governor would cast the deciding vote and determine which party is in control.

Log Books? Flight Plans?
Last Updated on Friday, 18 August 2006 02:18 Written by rslcpol Friday, 18 August 2006 02:18
Must mean Vermont Republican Lieutenant Governor Brian Dubie, a pilot for American Airlines, has formally kicked off his bid for a third consecutive term yesterday.
According to today’s Montpelier Times Argus:
“Our logbooks allow us to keep track of our activities and accomplishments,” Dubie said. “I am running for re-election, and I am excited to share my flight plan with you at this time.”
His accomplishments, he said, included bi-partisan fairness in presiding over the state Senate, working on homeland security issues, promoting healthy aging and encouraging investment in environmentally sound businesses.
The flight plan for the next two years promises a focus on ways to boost Vermonters' pay, improve education and health care and plan for future energy needs, he said.
“Vermonters have had an opportunity to see my work,” Dubie said. “I have chosen collaboration over confrontation. I have chosen to build relationships, not headlines. I promise to continue the work I have started.”
Lt. Governor Dubie faces Progressive candidate Dr. Marvin Malek and the winner of the September 12th Democrat primary between state senator Matt Dunne or Representative John Tracy.
