OK: Lt. Governor Pours her Money into Governor Campaign
Last Updated on Wednesday, 29 September 2010 11:53 Written by rslcpol Wednesday, 21 July 2010 01:49
From Tulsa World:
One of Lt. Gov. Jari Askins’ most powerful campaign weapons — her personal checkbook — has been brought to bear in her effort to win the Democratic gubernatorial nomination.
Reports filed late Monday with the state Ethics Commission show that Askins loaned her campaign $675,000 between June 16 and July 11.
The loans represent almost one-third of the $2.1 million raised by Askins during the course of her campaign.
In 2006, Askins put $880,000 of her own money into winning what was probably the most hotly contested lieutenant governor’s race in Oklahoma history.

Georgia Dem wins Lt. Governor Nomination; Husband Loses Gubernatorial
Last Updated on Wednesday, 29 September 2010 11:53 Written by rslcpol Wednesday, 21 July 2010 12:41
From macon.com:
Political newcomer Carol Porter of Dublin celebrated her win in the Democratic primary for lieutenant governor Tuesday night, even as her politically-seasoned husband, DuBose Porter, lost the gubernatorial nomination.
For most of the evening Carol Porter led her opponent, Tricia Carpenter McCracken of Augusta, with about 70 percent of the vote. In Bibb County, Porter garnered 6,232 votes to McCracken’s 2,275.
But the road ahead will likely be steeper. McCracken did not mount a campaign, while Porter’s opponent in November is well-funded incumbent Republican Casey Cagle. As of the June 30 campaign disclosure report, Cagle had raised a total of $1.2 million to Porter’s $186,500.

Virginia a Leader in Creating Jobs
Last Updated on Wednesday, 29 September 2010 11:56 Written by rslcpol Friday, 16 July 2010 01:48
From GoDanRiver.com:
Virginia ranks third in the nation in the number of new jobs created since January, Gov. Bob McDonnell said yesterday.
While the state has added a net 71,500 jobs since Feb. 1, the state’s chief jobs creation officer, Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling, said it still has a long way to go before it catches up after the recession.
As the jobless rate climbed from 3.4 percent to 7.6 percent since 2007, the state lost 150,000 jobs, he estimated. Virginia’s seasonally adjusted jobless rate for May was 7.1 percent, the third-lowest east of the Mississippi and 13th lowest nationally.
“This is not a victory lap,“ he said. . . . “There is no question that it is a dark hole we are trying to crawl out of.“

MO: Lt. Governor Lays down the Gauntlet Against Health Care Reform
Last Updated on Wednesday, 29 September 2010 12:05 Written by rslcpol Thursday, 8 July 2010 11:19
From Fox News:
GRETA VAN SUSTEREN, FOX NEWS HOST: Another state another battle. Missouri Lt. Governor Peter Kinder locking with the federal government, but this time it isn’t illegal immigration, it is health care. Lt. Governor Kinder joins us live. Good evening, sir.
LT. GOV. PETER KINDER, R-MO.: Good evening, and thank you for having me back, Greta.
VAN SUSTEREN: Happy to have you back. I’ve read your complaint quite lengthy, very long. Tell me, what is — you essentially have a couple arguments that you are saying the health care bill is unconstitutional. What are they?
KINDER: I heard the very fine interview you did last night with Arizona Senator Jon Kyl in which he made the distinction between a facial challenge on a statute, which is what the attorney generals in the other states have filed, and the distinction with our case that makes it different and unique is that we filed an “as applied” challenge on constitutional grounds.
That is the attorney general generals are Florida, Virginia and other AG’s in those cases are challenging the new federal health care reform law on its face. And our challenge differs in that we are not suing as the state of Missouri, we are suing with three plaintiffs who join me, three female citizens of Missouri who join me as plaintiffs in our case today.
