Iowa Statewide Smoking Ban (Video)

How completely out of hand is this legislation? Iowa Republican Leader Christopher Rants tries to clear the smoke on this issue. He then pivots to talk about an emerging problem in Iowa public school financing that involves using dollars allocated for building and improving schools for salaries instead.

Why the RSLC Matters (Video)

Why is it important to elect more Republicans to state and local offices?

Friday Funny (Video)

We don’t do Presidential races here at the SNS very often, but this was too funny to pass up.

WA AG: Ladenburg Ledger (Video)

Democrat John Ladenburg’s view on fighting crime in Washington state just doesn’t add up.

UPDATE: Ladenburg announced via press release this morning that he was going to challenge Republican Attorney General Rob McKenna for the AGs position out in Washington. Ladenburg’s statement offered no positive vision, or valid change argument – just the same tired partisan political hackery that you come to expect from 2nd tier statewide candidates.

IA Leg: GOP Leader Christopher Rants Made a Mistake (Video)

His words, not ours. Apparently Iowa Legislative Democrats want to increase taxes more than even Christopher Rants thought possible.

MO Dem AG Primary: If Mario Puzo Had His Say (Video)

Fredo? Vito? Michael? Who’s the head of this Missouri legal family? This is too weird not to post. See the Missouri Godfather preview now. How do Missouri Dem AG candidates Jeff Harris and Chris Koster feel about these roles? What about Margaret Donnelly – who will she be?

RSLC Releases TV Ad For Special Election in Kentucky (Video)

If you’re outside of Eastern Kentucky, you’re probably not aware that there’s a pitched battle going to fill a vacant state senate seat in Kentucky. If Republican State Representative Brandon Smith wins this special election against Democrat Scott Alexander – Kentucky Democrats will be blocked from garnering a majority in the state senate for years to come.

This is an interesting race to watch for a number of reasons:

Iowa and taxes: Losing Your Marbles (Video)

Has Iowa House Republican leader Christopher Rants lost his marbles? Probably not, but from the sound of things – it looks like with Democrats in control of both legislative chambers in Iowa, and the Governors office – it looks like taxpayers are about to lose theirs.

Johnny Cash and Politicians

The Man in Black appeals to politicians of all stripes – and especially for those who either are, or aspire to be, their state attorney general. First we heard about how Alabama Republican A.G. Troy King recorded his version of “My Elusive Dreams” as a fun Christmas gift for his friends down in Alabama. Now we have video of Missouri Democrat A.G. hopeful Jeff Harris singing his heart out at something called Demstock – Democrats in a dark bar, drinking Natural Light, and screaming their heads off every time someone says Bush or Clinton – kind of like happy hour at Who’s On First. Anyway – after the jump – you can watch Jeff Harris sing his own Folsom Prison Blues.

“I’ll back your campaign for AG if you run” (Video)

Or maybe it was something completely different like, “How can I get stem cell and school choice money at the same time?” You be the judge – check out this off the beaten path meeting between outgoing Missouri Democrat A.G. Jay Nixon and Republican turned Democrat A.G. candidate Chris Koster. If the meeting was just in the last month or so we’d say the conversation was about Koster’s former fellow prosecutor and Nixon’s fellow A.G. Paul Morrison (D-KS) – but that’s not the case since this meeting took place late summer ’07. Maybe it’s about what Nixon will do for Koster – after all Koster is a Dem primary favorite – of course his donor list reads more like a candidate with out a party (of course that will come out in the primary we’re sure).
