Dem Secretary of State Investigated for Using Taxpayer Funded Database for Campaign

From The Middletown Press:

Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz, of Middletown, is under fire for using a database of citizens’ names to send out unsoliticed e-mails seeking campaign contributions, according to the Hartford Courant.

Bysiewicz, a Democrat, is running for attorney general. Current Attorney General Richard Blumenthal is now investigating her actions.

The database of citizens’ names was assembled at taxpayers’ expense by her office, according to the Hartford Courant. She allegedly used the database to promoted her candidacy.

A Republican political activist who received unwanted Bysiewicz campaign e-mails lodged a complaint last October against Bysiewicz, charging she was misusing “official state data for a political campaign,” according to the Hartford Courant.

NY: A Career Ending Scandal for Democrat Governor Paterson?

From MyFoxNY.com:

Paterson met privately with key Democratic leaders about his re-election plans as questions swirl around the state capitol about a variety of unproven accusations involving the Democratic governor’s personal conduct.

Paterson campaign spokesman Richard Fife said the weekend calls had nothing to do with the accusations but were “routine re-election campaign calls.”

“The governor started making calls two weeks ago to step up his campaign effort and get ready to officially announce his re-election campaign,” Fife said. “The calls were — and are — going well … And then look what happens — a coordinated effort to stop him and spread rumors.”

Pressure over Scandalous Past Forces Democrat Lt. Governor Candidate to Drop Out – During Super Bowl

From Chicago Tribune:

Democratic lieutenant governor candidate Scott Lee Cohen, a Chicago pawnbroker whose surprise primary win last week was followed by scandalous revelations about his troubled past with a prostitute ex-girlfriend, said Sunday night he would quit as nominee.

“For the good of the people … I will resign,” a tearful Cohen told reporters at a news conference he chose to hold at a Far North Side bar during halftime of the Super Bowl.

“The last thing I ever, ever wanted to do was to put the people of Illinois in jeopardy in any way,” he also said.

Cohen’s decision came five days after Democratic voters bypassed five rivals, including veteran state lawmakers, and chose the rookie candidate who poured $2 million in personal funds into an advertising blitzkrieg for the state’s lightly regarded lieutenant governor spot. It marked one of the quickest and most dramatic changes to an Illinois political ticket in history.

Democrat State Senator investigated for sexual indecency

From Arkansas News:

An eastern Arkansas legislator who survived an election fraud trial in the state Senate faces new allegations of sexual indecency in his home district.

The Arkansas State Police is investigating allegations by a former substitute teacher that Sen. Jack Crumbly, D-Widener, the Earle School District superintendent, exposed himself to her in his office.

“That’s under investigation and my attorney has just said for me to refer all the inquiries to him,” Crumbly told the Arkansas News Bureau.

His lawyer, Dion Wilson, did not return repeated calls seeking comment this week.

A complaint originally filed with the Earle Police Department was turned over to the Arkansas State Police, Earle Police Chief Lee Johnson said Wednesday. No charges have been filed.

TX: Guilty Plea Ends Democrat’s Political Career

From the Dallas Morning News:

State Rep. Terri Hodge, D-Dallas, pleaded guilty early this morning to lying on her tax returns in connection with the FBI’s Dallas City Hall public corruption investigation, an act that ends her 14-year political career.

Hodge, 69, now a convicted felon, is dropping her re-election plans, and will resign her position as District 100 representative in the Texas House when she is sentenced. At Wednesday’s hearing, U.S. District Judge Barbara Lynn said she wanted sentencing to occur as soon as possible.

“Ms. Hodge will have pleaded guilty today to a felony and will still be representing her district,” Lynn said. “I’m not real keen on that notion.”

NC Democrats Face Corruption Rap Again

From NewsObserver.com:

For the past decade, North Carolina Democrats in charge of state government have been successful persuading the public they’re unlike fellow party colleagues who’ve ended up behind bars.

Democrats have remained in power in the Legislature and at the Executive Mansion despite the news of illegal activities that sent then-House Speaker Jim Black, Agriculture Commissioner Meg Scott Phipps and Rep. Thomas Wright to prison.

They’ve done so while passing tougher ethics and campaign finance laws, and even expelling Wright from the Legislature. At the same time, they’ve had political advantages to get their message out, such as outraising Republicans on campaign dollars, pushing education initiatives and presiding during a span largely marked by growth and prosperity in the state.

Nevada – Democrat a Lawmaker or a Lawbreaker?

From ktnv.com:

Contact 13 investigated and found State Senator 17 is none other than Senate Majority Leader Steven Horsford.

His sons play in the same football league as Heidi’s.

“I think it’s horrendous that we have a public official that was elected by the people, and then have him be so inconsiderate or so mindless that he would actually park in an access space designed for people with disabilities with no regard for those individuals,” says Paul Martin, president of Nevadans for Equal Access.

Martin works regularly with lawmakers on issues affecting the disabled. Heidi Campbell has some pointed questions for Senator Horsford.

North Carolina: Probable Cause to Indict Democrat

From newsobserver.com:

A grand jury in Columbus County has found probable cause to indict state Sen. R.C. Soles Jr. on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury in connection with an August shooting at Soles’ Tabor City home.

Soles, 74, a Democrat, is the longest-serving state senator. He shot one of two men that he said were intruding into his home. His attorney said the shooting was self-defense.

Columbus County District Attorney Rex Gore turned the case over Attorney General Roy Cooper, whose office presented the case to a grand jury Thursday. The grand jury has asked Cooper to prepare the necessary paperwork for it to return an indictment against Soles.

Ohio: Disgraced Former Attorney General Dann Aide to serve 45 Days in Jail

From DispatchPolitics:

A year and a half after the Statehouse was riveted by lurid tales of booze, lewd behavior and sex among members of the attorney general’s inner circle, the figure at the center of that scandal was sentenced to 45 days in jail and nearly $7,000 in payments.

Investigators continued to insist yesterday that Anthony Gutierrez won’t necessarily be the only former employee of the attorney general’s office to face justice in the wake of the scandal that toppled Ohio’s top lawman, Marc Dann, in May 2008.

But with the statute of limitations on some possible charges expiring in May, there are no obvious signs that prosecutors are closing in on other targets.
