NH: Democrat Legislator Resigns after ‘Dead Palin’ Remark
Last Updated on Wednesday, 29 September 2010 11:38 Written by rslcpol Thursday, 12 August 2010 01:20
From CNN Political Ticker:
A New Hampshire state legislator resigned his office Thursday after becoming the second Democrat in as many days to speculate about Sarah Palin’s death on Facebook.
State Rep. Timothy Horrigan made the remarks Wednesday night in a thread discussing the Alaska plane crash that killed former Sen. Ted Stevens.
“Well a dead Palin wd be even more dangerous than a live one…she is all about her myth & if she was dead she cldn’t commit any more gaffes,” Horrigan wrote.
Horrigan was commenting on another post by a Democrat running for the state house, party activist Keith David Halloran, who found himself in hot water Wednesday after writing about the crash: “Just wish Sarah and Levy [sic] were on board.”

NH Democrat Sinks to new low on Facebook
Last Updated on Wednesday, 29 September 2010 11:39 Written by rslcpol Wednesday, 11 August 2010 01:24
From nhgop.org:
The New Hampshire Republican State Committee today denounced Democrat NH House candidate Keith Halloran’s public death wish for former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. The Party also called on Governor John Lynch and Congressional Candidate Ann McLane Kuster to personally denounce his hateful remarks and call for him to apologize to the Palin family.
In a Facebook post yesterday regarding the tragic plane crash that killed former Alaska Senator Ted Stevens, Halloran wrote, “Just wish Sarah and Levy [sic] were on board.” Levi Johnston is the father of Governor Palin’s grandson (RedHampshire, 8/11).
“Mr. Halloran’s outrageous comments are a new low, even by the standards of the New Hampshire Democrat Party,” said NHGOP Communications Director Ryan Williams. “His publicly stated death wish for Governor Palin and her family is abhorrent, and has no place in our public discourse. Governor Lynch and Ann McLane Kuster need to immediately denounce Mr. Halloran’s hateful remarks and demand that he personally apologize to the Palin family.”

GOP Says Senator Copied her Husband’s Work; Former Blago Consultant
Last Updated on Tuesday, 10 August 2010 12:21 Written by rslcpol Tuesday, 10 August 2010 12:21
From the Wisconsin State Journal:
Wisconsin Republicans have accused a state senator of plagiarizing her husband’s writing on taxes.
The state Republican Party claims three essays written over the past three years by Sen. Kathleen Vinehout, D-Alma, lift passages nearly verbatim from columns written by her husband, Douglas Kane, once a consultant to former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich. Republicans say the similarities raise questions about Vinehout’s credibility.
“This is the definition of plagiarism,” said John Hogan, executive director of the Committee to Elect Republican Senators. “Does she have any original ideas?”
Kane said Vinehout was out campaigning on Monday and couldn’t comment. He said he wrote drafts of some of her columns, much like a campaign staff writer would write a candidate’s speeches. Some of the language from his works carried over, he said.

Ohio AG Discloses Thousands of Dollars of help from Democratic Party
Last Updated on Wednesday, 29 September 2010 11:41 Written by rslcpol Tuesday, 10 August 2010 10:25
From dispatchpolitics.com:
After running a campaign with virtually no expenses – and getting criticized for it – Attorney General Richard Cordray last week reported thousands of dollars worth of help from the Ohio Democratic Party.
In a complaint to the Ohio Elections Commission, Republicans accused Cordray of trying to hide campaign expenses behind the facade of the Ohio Democratic Party, which Cordray denied.
In his latest fundraising report, however, Cordray reports thousands of dollars in assistance from the Ohio Democratic Party in July, including $28,452 in payroll expenses.
The campaign of Cordray’s opponent, Republican Mike DeWine, called the disclosures “a huge shift from past practice” and speculated that it likely was the result of the allegations in the elections complaint.

AG Finds ‘inappropriate’ use of tax payer funded resources in Democrat Secretary of State Office
Last Updated on Thursday, 5 August 2010 01:21 Written by rslcpol Thursday, 5 August 2010 01:21
From courant.com:
The state attorney general said Thursday that he has found “inappropriate” political use of taxpayer-funded resources in the office of Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz — and has referred the matter to the state’s top prosecutor, Chief State’s Attorney Kevin Kane, to determine if criminal laws were broken.
Attorney General Richard Blumenthal made those findings in an investigative report issued Thursday — saying also that it was “not proper” for his fellow Democrat, Bysiewicz, to include information on the “religion, race and ethnicity” of thousands of citizens in a controversial, taxpayer-funded “constituent database” assembled and maintained by her office.
Bysiewicz’s inclusion in the database of information not essential to the operation of her office “gives the reasonable perception that the state database was developed as a useful tool for political campaign purposes,” Blumenthal said.

Democrat Attorney General Candidate admits to ‘Dabbling’ with Cocaine
Last Updated on Wednesday, 4 August 2010 01:16 Written by rslcpol Wednesday, 4 August 2010 01:16
From NYDailyNews.com:
Democratic attorney general hopeful Kathleen Rice admitted Tuesday to dabbling with marijuana and cocaine in her college days.
The Nassau County district attorney told the Daily News she did the drugs “a handful” of times in her early 20s.
“It was one of those stupid things that people do in their life and you regret and you move on,” said Rice, after speaking with The News’ Editorial Board.
Rice, a graduate of Catholic University in Washington, said she is steadfastly opposed to legalizing drugs.
“I’ve seen too much, and too close up, the damage they do to communities and families and public safety,” she said.

AG King – The ‘Gatekeeper’ to New Mexico’s Political Machine
Last Updated on Wednesday, 29 September 2010 11:46 Written by rslcpol Monday, 2 August 2010 01:15
From nmpolitics.net:
After reviewing Attorney General Gary King’s record over the last four years a quote comes to mind: “Don’t mistake activity for achievement.” Attorney General Gary King has acted as the gatekeeper to a political machine that will go down in the books as perhaps the most scandalous in our history. Accordingly, one would think every corruption headline would have been followed by an accountability headline. Not the case – not even close.
Let’s examine the record and see if it warrants re-election for the gatekeeper.
First case up involves former state treasurer Michael Montoya, whose indictment was obtained by Attorney General Patricia Madrid before she left office. The indictment charged Montoya with orchestrating a campaign of bribes and kickbacks that rocked the state treasurer’s office. In 2007, King resolved this case by entering into an agreement with Montoya to plead guilty to one felony count of racketeering in exchange for dismissing 15 others. Following this deal, King stated he was “pleased” with the results and that his office had “sent a message that they will pursue whatever actions are necessary to protect the public trust.”

Democrat AG Candidate Answers Questions about ‘Bumpergate’
Last Updated on Tuesday, 20 July 2010 12:16 Written by rslcpol Tuesday, 20 July 2010 12:16
From Capitol Confidential:
During a debate this morning, Sen. Eric Schneiderman was asked by NY1’s Grace Rauh whether his actions after a campaign staffer hit a parked car and drove away without trying to contact its owner.
“I’ve answered all the questions about this,” Schneiderman, D-Manhattan, said, noting televised interviews with Rauh and a “cross-examination” by YNN’s Liz Benjamin. “It’s been resolved between the parites, and I have to say, I just I came back from Buffalo last night, I’ve been campaigning all around the state since then, Voters talk to me about mortgage fraud, they talk to me about taking on illegal guns, what I’m doing to take on insurance companies. Not one voter has asked me about this and I think, with all due respect, the question has been answered.”

New York Post: Democrat AG wannabes Play ‘hooky’
Last Updated on Wednesday, 29 September 2010 11:53 Written by rslcpol Tuesday, 20 July 2010 12:04
From New York Post:
Attorney-general hopefuls Richard Brodsky and Eric Schneiderman are among the Legislature’s biggest truants this year, often skipping out on their current jobs as they seek higher office, a Post analysis has found.
Brodsky, a Westchester assemblyman, missed three out of every 10 session days for a total of 24 absences, making him the sixth-most truant member in the 150-seat Assembly, according to voting records.
Schneiderman, a Manhattan senator, was absent or excused on six of this year’s 80 session days, tying him for the Senate’s second-worst record.

Democrat Attorney General Race Gets Ugly
Last Updated on Tuesday, 13 July 2010 02:04 Written by rslcpol Tuesday, 13 July 2010 02:04
From 11alive.com:
– It is an ugly race between democrats seeking the job as state attorney general.
At issue — a 30 second television commercial from Rob Teilhet’s campaign taking aim at Ken Hodges’ time as Dougherty County District Attorney.
Emily Walker’s son died December 10, 2003. Police thought he was a drug dealer. He wasn’t. A grand jury deliberated for 41 minutes after hearing 7 witnesses, 5 of them police officers and the decided against indictments.
“It’s a powerful ad, Emily Walker’s story and it’s true. This is a family looking for justice,” Teilhet said.
It is the most talked about television ad in Georgia politics with almost 15,000 YouTube views. But Hodges supporters challenge the veracity of its claims.
