How to Loop in Immigration

Arkansas Republican AG candidate Gunner Delay grabbed one of the hottest political issues and pulled it into his campaign today.

FAYETTEVILLE — Republican attorney general's candidate Gunner DeLay said Wednesday as the state's chief legal officer he would sue employers who hire illegal immigrants to recoup the cost of any Medicaid benefits granted to the workers.

DeLay also said denying bail to those not legally in this country would be among the measures he would support in a crackdown on illegal immigration.

About a three foot putt, but gets in the cup just the same.  Kudos to Delay for bringing up this issue and making it relevant to his campaign.

Delay’s opponent on the other hand apparently didn’t understand that the point was to put the ball in the cup (bad metaphor all around today) on this hole.  Apparently, he thought he should be putting 4 holes down the course with this comment:

His Democratic opponent, state Rep. Dustin McDaniel of Jonesboro, through his campaign accused DeLay of trying to divert attention from what McDaniel said were the failings of GOP gubernatorial nominee Asa Hutchinson, a former federal Homeland Security Department undersecretary in charge of border security.

Gotta wonder about McDaniel’s call on this one – he really could’ve hit Delay, or at least tried, instead he was aiming for the Gov candidate in this one.  McDaniel’s a pilot, maybe the metaphor should’ve been along those lines, because he came up way short of the runway on this one.

He was fortunate though that the article was absurdly long for such a subject.
