Last Updated on Wednesday, 29 September 2010 03:11 Written by rslcpol Wednesday, 17 February 2010 01:24
From PilotOnline.com:
Virginia’s attorney general said Tuesday that the state will be the first in the nation to contest a key finding by the Obama administration that carbon dioxide is a danger to public health and contributes to global warming.
In a statement, Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli said he has filed petitions with the Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington in hope of reversing the finding.
Cuccinelli’s announcement indicates that Virginia, under Republican leadership, will take a much different line on climate change from the administration of former Gov. Timothy M. Kaine, a Democrat.

VA: Romney and McDonnell Call into Lt. Governor’s Radio Show

From WashingtonPost.com:

Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling played radio host this morning on WRVA in Richmond and welcomed fellow Republicans, possible presidential hopeful Mitt Romney and Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell, onto the program.
Romney, former Massachusetts governor and a 2008 presidential candidate, talked about the man currently occupying the White House.
“I don’t think an unbiased observer would give Obama a passing grade in his first year,” Romney said. “It was a lost year unfortunately. The first rule of any kind of a turnaround is to focus your efforts and unfortunately instead of focusing his efforts on the economy and creating jobs the president used his political capital and his energy to go and sell a healthcare plan and the more he sold it the less attractive it was and the American people ultimately rejected that plan and, as a result, we really lost a year.”

Gov. Bob McDonnell bluntly ruled out tax increases on Monday as a solution for Virginia’s $4 billion budget shortfall, promising to target them for vetoes.
Just 53 hours after being sworn in, the new Republican governor braced state employees for deeper job cuts and residents for reduced services as the state struggles with its worst fiscal crisis.
“Some say taxes must be raised, it’s unavoidable. Here’s what I say. I will work with you — Democrats, Republicans and independents. We will meet and negotiate; there will be disagreements, and there will be compromises,” he said.
