Profile of Republican Florida AG Candidate Pam Bondi
Last Updated on Wednesday, 29 September 2010 12:57 Written by rslcpol Tuesday, 1 June 2010 01:09
From TampaBay.com:
Pam Bondi stands at a podium, looking and sounding a lot like the prosecutor she was for more than 18 years.
She’s making a case, but not like any she has made in court.
“Washington has run roughshod over our jobs, our health care and our welfare,” she tells a group of fellow Republicans gathered for lunch at a steak house. “Obama and Pelosi are out of control.”
This is not the Bondi who put away murderers, or the woman who made headlines with her personal legal fight over a Hurricane Katrina rescue dog.

FL: State Senator Drops out of Governor Race
Last Updated on Wednesday, 29 September 2010 01:03 Written by rslcpol Monday, 24 May 2010 12:46
From Orlando Sentinel:
State Sen. Paula Dockery announced Monday she was dropping out of a three-way Republican gubernatorial primary that has been turned on its head over the last month by the entrance of health care executive Rick Scott.
“People who know me know I’m a tenacious fighter unafraid of long odds, especially when the stakes are so high. But I’m also a realist and understand the costs of effectively competing statewide. At this point in the election cycle, I see no financial path to victory,” the Lakeland Republican said in an e-mail message to supporters.
“And so today, with both resignation that the resources are not there and appreciation for the journey we shared, I am ending my campaign to be governor of the great state of Florida.”

Last Updated on Wednesday, 29 September 2010 01:04 Written by rslcpol Friday, 21 May 2010 12:29
From MiamiHerald.com:
A Democratic candidate for attorney general is facing questions about whether his campaign skirted election laws to pay staffers.
A former fundraiser for Dave Aronberg received payments from the campaign and a little-known federal political committee called Citizens for Effective Government, according to campaign finance records.
Ryan Hampton, a South Florida-based money man, made more than $10,000 from Aronberg’s campaign and another $1,000 from the federal committee.
The committee — dubbed a 527 under the IRS code — was closely tied to Aronberg, a state senator from Palm Beach County, before it closed shop in April amid questions.

FL: Republican Women Take Aim
Last Updated on Wednesday, 29 September 2010 01:29 Written by rslcpol Monday, 3 May 2010 12:56
From Tallahassee.com:
Republican women raffled off a pink rifle and took a few potshots at political foes Sunday in a feminized call to arms for Florida’s 2010 political campaign.
The first annual “Real Women Shoot Back” picnic, political rally and target practice drew about 150 voters to the Coon Bottom Gun Club in the tall pine country of Gadsden County. Organizer Jenny Whitaker of the Tallahassee Republican Women’s Club said the federation hoped to net about $2,500 to help GOP candidates and build the party.
“I think you’ll find most of our members are members of the National Rifle Association,” said Cindy Graves of Jacksonville, state president of the Republican Women’s Federation. “We believe in guns and believe in women protecting themselves and using firearms safely. We’re going to do this all over the state.”
While visitors ate barbecued chicken and enjoyed skeet shooting, trap shooting and a pistol range, vendors sold bumper stickers and T-shirts with conservative messages. Those included top 10 reasons women prefer guns to men (sample: “Guns stay good-looking and dependable for years”) and why men prefer guns to women (sample: “A gun never asks ‘Do these grips make me look fat?’ “).

From NaplesNews.com:
The Republican-controlled Florida Legislature’s answer to a pair of citizen initiatives on redistricting has passed in The Republican-controlled Legislature’s answer to a pair of citizen initiatives aimed at curtailing gerrymandering cleared the Florida House by a partisan vote Monday.
The proposed state constitutional amendment (HJR 7231), which House Democrats said would undermine the initiatives, passed 74-40 — two more than the minimum needed to get on the ballot.
It goes to the Senate next and is expected to pass with help from at least a couple Democrats. They’ve joined Republicans in arguing the measure is needed to “clarify” the citizen initiatives and keep intact changes in redistricting procedures over the last 20 years that have increased minority representation in legislative and congressional districts.
“These gains were not achieved through an accident or through a mistake,” said Rep. Erik Fresen, R-Miami. “They were achieved through a process that was rightfully corrected.”
