NV: State GOP Focuses on Getting Vote Out

From ElkoDailyPress:

Nevada Republican Party Chairman Sen. Mark Amodei, R-Carson City, said Wednesday the state party is focusing on “turning folks out to vote” in the Nov. 2 election to put Republicans in office.

He also said Republicans “need to reach out and touch as many independents as we can.

“We’ve been blessed with a phenomenal amount of volunteers,” Amodei said at the new Elko County Republican Party headquarters during a town hall gathering. Former Elko resident Ralph McMullen echoed his comment on volunteers.

McMullen, who is the northern Nevada director for Republican U.S. Senate candidate Sharron Angle and chairman of the Washoe County Republican Party, said people are even coming from out of state to help with Angle’s campaign.

NM: AG Lets Governor Write-in Candidate Run without Lt. Governor

From KRWG:

Herrera has come under criticism from her Republican opponent, Dianna Duran, and several county clerks.

Assistant Attorney General Tania Maestas said the state Constitution does not specifically prohibit a write-in candidate for governor and the state’s ballots are “neither blatantly illegal nor unconstitutional.” Herrera’s office released the letter on Thursday.

Critics of Herrera’s decision point to a constitutional provision that says the governor and lieutenant governor shall be elected jointly.

Romney was in Atlanta on Thursday stumping for statewide GOP candidates including Sen. Johnny Isakson and Sam Olens, candidate for attorney general. Romney is scheduled to headline a fundraiser for Isakson during his visit.

“I made a commitment to help in key races,” Romney said when asked why he had come to Georgia to help the junior senator get elected to his second term, saying that Isakson is “doing better and better.”

“I’m surprised at just how well he’s done,” Romney said.

When asked about his predictions for the November midterm elections, Romney stopped short of handicapping the races.

MA: Death Penalty Debate in AG Race

From Boston.com:

“We don’t know the facts here yet,’’ McKenna said during his first debate yesterday with Martha Coakley, the Democratic incumbent. “But this case may put the death penalty back on the table.’’

Four people were killed in the shootings early Tuesday, including a 2-year old child.

Coakley, who is seeking reelection after her defeat to Scott Brown in January’s special US Senate election, said she opposes capital punishment; in the past, she had supported it in certain instances. “I am against it,’’ she said simply.

Massachusetts lawmakers have repeatedly turned aside efforts to reinstate the death penalty, citing a lack of evidence that it deters crime and the possibility of executing an innocent convict.

NY: Former Democrat Candidate Unendorses Democrat AG Candidate

From LoHud.com:

Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice endorsed Eric Schneiderman for attorney general after she lost to him in the primary, but now she’s saying that she shouldn’t be endorsing anyone because of a code of conduct for sitting district attorneys and is no longer supporting any candidates.

She also said she backed Queens Assembly candidate Francisco Moya, but that using the word “endorse” was the wrong choice of words.

“After a hard fought five-way Democratic primary election for attorney general, it was important for all five Democrats in the race to unite behind a common purpose of promoting safe communities and standing up for New Yorkers,” she said in a statement this morning.

AL: Republican AG Candidate Calls Health Care Bill ‘Intrusion’

From Tuscaloosanews.com:

The Republican nominee for attorney general said Wednesday that the office has a role to play in preventing the federal government from intruding in the lives of citizens.

However, the Birmingham attorney said he would definitely join a lawsuit seeking to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act if elected, a point on which he and his opponent disagree.

CA: Family of Slain Officer Endorses Republican AG Candidate

From SFGate:

No surprise here — family members of slain San Francisco Police Office Isaac Espinoza, longtime and vocal critics of San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris, announced their support for her opponent in the attorney general race today.

In a scathing, nearly 2-page long statement released by Los Angeles District Attorney Steve Cooley’s campaign, his parents, sister and widow attack Harris’ record and say she is “simply not worthy” of the attorney general’s office.

The family released a similar statement shortly before the June primary, but stopped short then of endorsing any of her opponents. Cooley has scored backing from a long list of law enforcement groups and officials.

Iowa: NRA Endorses Republican Attorney General Candidate

From IowaPolitics.com:

Brenna Findley, Republican candidate for Iowa Attorney General, has earned the endorsement of the National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF).

Said Chris Cox, NRA-PVF Chairman, “Gun owners and hunters in Iowa can trust Brenna Findley to fight for their Second Amendment rights.”

In stark contrast Findley’s opponent, Attorney General Tom Miller, has earned an “F” rating from the NRA-PVF for refusing to stand with an overwhelming majority of state attorneys general who signed pro-Second Amendment “friend of the court” briefs in the landmark Supreme Court cases of Heller and McDonald. Additionally, Miller’s office issued interpretations of Iowa’s firearms preemption statute and right-to-carry law that took an extremely narrow view of the rights of Iowa gun owners. Said Cox, “Brenna Findley’s support for individual gun ownership rights has earned her an “A+” rating and endorsement from the NRA-PVF. We ask all Iowa gun owners, hunters and NRA members to vote for Brenna Findley for Attorney General on November 2.”
