This is deja-vu all over again. A story like this ran the other day down in Alabama. These state and local Democrats really are going that extra mile to represent their constituents…by voting twice on legislation. Hey, bless them for taking the whole vote early, vote often bit to heart. Oh wait, they’re not supposed to do that. Oh well – they seem like they’re sort of sorry…that they got busted. Very Daley and Capone of them.
Rep. Terry Harrison, D-McAlester, confirmed he was in his office Thursday afternoon and missed several votes. He said he was making telephone calls to constituents. While Harrison was in his fifth-floor office, at least four votes were being recorded next to his name on the electronic screen in the chamber.
Members vote on bills by pushing buttons on their desks in the chamber. If they’re away from their desks, they can signal to the presiding officer, usually the speaker pro tempore, how they wish to vote or to another member to push their button for them.
