Rough position for everybody to be in…great source of revenue, but be careful who you turn the road over too…and how much authority you give them to raise toll rates.
Turning over a state operation to private enterprise is an idea many Republicans typically would support. But they were embarking on a bitter struggle with Rendell over taxes and didn’t want to hand him a victory.Many Democrats weren’t enamored of the turnpike plan, and it fell flat.
Now, as questions continue about whether the state can impose tolls on Interstate 80 to help raise the money, some Republicans are rethinking the concept of a turnpike lease.
