Whoa Nellie! Democrat primary voters made history last night when
they kicked out the first incumbent attorney general in a primary in 58
years. Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk was soundly elected, making AG
Peg Lautenschlager a lame duck (though I don’t know how that applies as
AG).
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has this article that
recaps the race nicely.
Falk, 55, took the stage at her
election night party at Fyfe's Corner Bistro in Madison just before midnight.
She began by thanking Lautenschlager for her years of public service and asking
Democrats to join together for the general election.
Just so everybody’s clear – she starts her victory remarks
by thanking her opponent for years of distinguished service – the same
opponent she’d spent the previous months thrashing and trashing. I
guess what she meant was, thanks for having a high profile screw up –
without it I wouldn’t be extinguishing your political career.
Nice remarks.
Falk’s second comment must’ve been overlooked – you know
the one where she thanks all of her opponent’s supporters for all they
did to help her foe.
Oh well – the Democrat AG group now has to make nice with their
nominee – that might cost them a bit more than they spent for
Lautenschlager.
