Health workers and anti-tobacco advocates think a common New Year’s resolution will become even more common this year as Wisconsin’s cigarette tax increased by $1 to $1.77 per pack on Jan. 1.
The increase was included as part of the state’s biennial budget, which was signed into law in late October.
It will be the 12th highest in the nation. New Jersey has the highest tax at $2.28 per pack.
