To fight underage drinking, because teenagers always think about economics before cracking open a can of natty light.
Assembly Alcoholism Committee Chairman Felix Ortiz (D-Sunset Park) says tacking a 25-cent tax on every alcoholic beverage sold in New York will help tame what he calls an epidemic of underage drinking.
“Young people who begin drinking before the age of 15 are four times more likely to develop alcoholism,” Ortiz said.
