Maryland Republican legislators, taking every step possible to stop tax increases dead in their tracks.
BALTIMORE (Map, News) – Maryland’s highest court will hear the appeal of a lawsuit brought by Republican legislators that charged that the General Assembly acted unconstitutionally during November’s special session in raising taxes and putting the question of slot machine gambling on the ballot.A Carroll County judge had dismissed the lawsuit Jan. 10, though he added his own harsh judgments about the legislature’s administrative actions, which he called “reprehensible” and “egregious.”
Attorney Irwin Kramer asked the Court of Appeals on Friday to take the case for review, and Tuesday morning, the high court agreed to hear the case March 11.
