DETROIT — Lawyers for Geoffrey Fieger want to question Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox under oath as they attempt to prove the controversial Southfield trial attorney was indicted on felony campaign finance charges for political reasons, a federal judge was told Friday. The state and federal governments were investigating Fieger for alleged campaign finance violations in 2005, though only the federal probe resulted in charges. Cox publicly accused Fieger in November 2005 of threatening to expose Cox’s extramarital affair, which Cox acknowledged, if he did not drop his investigation. Oakland County Prosecutor David Gorcyca investigated the blackmail allegation, which Fieger denied, but brought no charges.
