BOWBELLS – The Burke County Commission violated North Dakota’s open meetings law when it held a secret, closed session to discuss budget matters last fall, according to Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem.Stenehjem issued an opinion Monday that directed the commission to prepare detailed minutes of the closed session to make available to the public. Minutes and a tape recording of the meeting also must be given to Burke County Sheriff Barry Jager, who had requested the Attorney General’s opinion for a group of concerned county residents.
