This 3-fer is a 100% first in American government. Not really sure where they came up with it, but it sure is interesting.
It would be a three-for-one.One Tennessean’s vote would go toward electing a governor, lieutenant governor and the secretary of state under a newly proposed constitutional amendment.
The move, sponsored by Speaker Pro Tem Rosalind Kurita (D-Clarksville) and Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey (R-Blountville), would help address two needs both have advocated for — having more popularly elected positions in Tennessee and providing a line of succession in case the governor becomes incapacitated.
Under her proposal, Kurita said that anyone who could become governor would have to be popularly elected as opposed to appointed.
