Watch Nevada legislative races this years kids. Democrats are feeling awfully smug about their prospects, but Republicans are surging – this ain’t 2006 baby!
While few, if any, local legislators have drawn a publicly-declared opponent yet this election year, most spent 2007 aggressively raising money, according to records submitted last month to the Nevada Secretary of State.
The effort benefited Republicans more than Democrats.
Republican lawmakers whose districts include parts of Washoe County raised more than three times as much money as their Democratic counterparts.
Northern Nevada GOP lawmakers raised a combined $221,000 to the Democrats’ $65,500.
Assemblywoman Heidi Gansert, R-Reno, and State Sen. Bill Raggio, R-Reno, both party leaders in their respective houses, fueled most of the fundraising.
Despite growing his campaign bank account by $62,000 last year, Raggio has yet to decide whether he will seek a final term.
