It starts off sounding like a well conceived scam, until you find out that it’s just a new twist on the old Nigerian number. Note to anybody looking to get rich quick – don’t wire a dime anywhere unless you really know where it’s going. If you’re going to fall for this type of scam, why don’t you just put your social security number, mother’s maiden name and date of birth on the bumper of your car in large block print.
Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett says there’s a scam going on in which people are duped into thinking they’ll be “mystery shoppers.”
Corbett says consumers are getting official-looking notices saying they’ve been selected for a program in which they’ll get paid to shop at major retailers and evaluate the service. He says they get mailed realistic-looking bad checks.
