What a great idea – taking political considerations out of punishments for campaign violations.
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) – Governor Bobby Jindal is expected to sign legislation to strip the Louisiana Board of Ethics of its ability to determine guilt or innocence of public officials charged with ethics violations. The House and Senate gave final passage to the bill by House Speaker Jim Tucker. The House vote was 99-0, while the Senate vote was 35-3.
Under the bill, the power to rule on charges would be shifted to administrative law judges, who don’t work for the board and who are selected by an appointee of the governor.
