When she was a state representative, Linda Bebko-Jones did not have the 300 signatures required to support her last bid for office as the deadline for nominating petitions drew near in March 2006.
Rather than relying on the signatures of Erie voters, the state Attorney General’s Office is alleging, Bebko-Jones and her then-chief of staff forged the signatures of dozens of names they pulled out of an Erie phone book and an address book. One was the name of a person who had been dead for nearly six years.
Bebko-Jones’ son, Bryan Jones, then told his mother and her staff they could sign his name to the petitions to make it appear as if he had circulated them among his mother’s supporters, the Attorney General’s Office said.
