Some Pettis County officials are greeting a bill that recently passed out of the state Senate with cautious optimism, though others have concerns about its potential cost.
Senate Bill 711, sponsored by Senate President Pro Tem Michael Gibbons, R-Kirkwood, seeks to close what he called “back door tax increases.”“With this bill, taxing boards must roll back their tax rates to protect taxpayers,” Gibbons said in a release announcing the bill’s Senate passage. “Also they will no longer be able to apply voter-approved increases to new reassessments, meaning no more double whammies on the taxpayers.
