Texas Democrats want to be in power so much that they’re acting like they’re already there! Divisive primaries ALWAYS make for great general elections. Right?

AUSTIN — After a highly charged primary election season that exposed some fault lines in the ranks of Texas House Democrats, party leaders hope to begin mending the rifts tonight in a venue acceptable to politicians of all stripes: a fundraising party.Rep. Jim Dunnam, who heads the House Democratic Caucus, said the event at the swank Austin Club a few blocks south of the Texas Capitol is billed as a tribute to every Democratic House candidate who won a contested primary. That means candidates who knocked off some of the Legislature’s most venerated incumbents will rub elbows with other long-serving members who, until a few weeks ago, were trying to kill the political careers of those challengers before they ever got started.

“Some of us may be disappointed [in the outcomes of some primaries], but we have to respect the will of the voters,” said Dunnam, D-Waco. “It’s important that we say to these new members that we welcome you into the caucus.”
