This year’s Republican contest for state attorney general might become a warm-up for the 2012 race for governor.
If Gov. Mitch Daniels picks a favorite for the nomination at the June 2 GOP state convention, he could even help select his successor.
One potential candidate for attorney general is Secretary of State Todd Rokita. Likely joining him in the race are Deputy Attorney General Greg Zoeller and Indianapolis attorney Tom Wheeler, chairman of the State Election Commission. Another possibility is Kyle Hupfer, who ran the Department of Natural Resources for Daniels.
On the Democratic side, life is not so complicated. Indianapolis attorney Linda Pence, a former Justice Department official, is expected to be nominated at the party’s June convention. Pence was the first woman to become a name partner in a top-10 Indianapolis law firm.
