NE: AG Wants To Cut Out Big Government Middleman

Bruning said his office was committed to fighting discrimination, and he encouraged victims to go directly to the Attorney General’s Office for help.

Anne Hobbs, executive director of the commission, defended its work. Hobbs said the law requires the commission to act on behalf of an aggrieved “person” and does not require U.S. citizenship.

“It is not appropriate for our office to inquire about someone’s legal status,” she said. “I do stand by the quality of our investigations and the judgment of our commission.”

Hobbs said Bruning has jeopardized her agency’s federal funding by failing to enforce housing discrimination law.
