Anne Milgram defended the decision to hire Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher $; Flom, LLP to advise Gov. Jon S. Corzine’s administration on his toll road plan, telling lawmakers Monday that the firm offered better resources and the same bottom-line price as other qualified firms.
Skadden had bid a higher initial rate — $548 per hour — than its chief rival for the job, a joint bid by Nossaman Guthner Knox Elliott and Allen & Overy, which would have charged $499. But Milgram said Skadden offered a 10 percent discount if the toll plan does not go forward, while Nossaman and Allen; Overy would have added a 10 percent charge if the proposal was approved.
