PA: State and Local Races On Today’s Ballot

The most interesting local race features incumbent Tim Mahoney trying to beat back a challenge from Larry Roberts for the Democratic Party’s nomination in the 51st district. Roberts served 14 years in the state legislature before retiring two years ago. Mahoney won the seat then and is seeking a second term. There are no Republicans running for the seat but Gary Gearing has filed as an Independent candidate and will be on the ballot in the fall.

Another Democratic party race finds longtime incumbent Pete Daley of California battling two challengers Randy Barli and Barbara Reis in the 49th district. There are no Republicans seeking the seat.

The lone local Republican contest pits two newcomers Robert Helterbran and Mike Reese against each other in the 59th District. They are vying to replace Jess Stairs who announced earlier this year that he wouldn’t seek another term in office. Running unopposed is Democrat Michael O’Barto.
