“…the battle for control of the Alabama Senate in one easy-to-understand sentence: “Those who make the rules, rule.”
The latest battle over control of the Senate started on election night, when Republicans increased their seats in the Senate from 10 to 12 and Democrats fell from 25 seats to 23.
The battle heated up when six disgruntled Democratic senators and the 12 Republicans started talking about forming a coalition to take control of the Senate from Sanders and some other Democrats who have filled leadership posts for eight years.
It grew hotter with lawsuits seeking to disqualify some senators on both sides of the Senate split. The suits, which are still awaiting trial, claim the senators, including President Pro Tem Lowell Barron, D-Fyffe, didn't file the proper campaign finance reports and shouldn't be allowed in office.
The battle will grow even hotter Monday when the new Legislature meets in Tuscaloosa for a three-day orientation session that will include lots of behind-the-scenes talks aimed at moving senators from one side to the other.
No, apparently things weren’t so cut and dried as some may’ve though on Election Night down south.
