Don’t let it give you one minute of pause that it’s taken until this point – after how many years of having a Democrat governor in this state – to update environmental enforcement measures. No – Delaware Dems aren’t taking the environmental folks for granted.
Illegal dumpers would face tougher penalties, especially in state parks, under legislation slated to go to the General Assembly this spring, Attorney General Beau III said Monday. The effort targets fines that have gone unchanged in some cases for 35 years, Biden said, and would give prosecutors more authority to take action against both dumpers and those found to be “indirectly” responsible, including original sources of illegally discarded waste.Sen. David B. McBride, D-Hawks Nest, and Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control Secretary John A. Hughes joined Biden in announcing the legislative effort, which would increase a variety of penalties.
