IL: State May Sue School

Cara Smith, Madigan’s deputy chief of staff, said her office will review the 2006 judgment against the school and last week’s follow-up order turning the matter over to the attorney general for collection before launching a lawsuit.

An attorney representing the woman who was sexually harassed is owed $6,218 in legal fees and has made clear the school now has the resources to cover that judgment after getting the $1 million Blagojevich administration grant.

“It’s not a high legal bill, but $6,000 is $6,000,” said lawyer Patricia Motto, who asked the Human Rights Commission for last week’s enforcement order allowing Madigan to get involved in collecting the judgment.

Motto said she has tried but has been unable to locate her client since the governor admitted Loop Lab School was the mistaken beneficiary of a $1 million grant, which was used to purchase a downtown office condo at 318 W. Adams.
