Maybe Ohio Dem AG-Elect Dann meant the OTHER type of pay-to-play. Go figure.
After criticizing Ohio’s pay-to-play politics, State Sen. Dann, D-Liberty, jumped right into the game when he recommended campaign contributor Capri Cafaro to succeed him in the Senate. Cafaro won the appointment to complete Dann’s term.
According to published reports, Dann justified his recommendation by saying, ‘‘Capri was the only candidate for that job that has a substantive knowledge of government.’’
Other candidates included former State Senator and former Trumbull County Commissioner Anthony Latell and current State Rep. Sandra Stabile-Harwood, D-Niles.
Apparently Latell’s many years in public office, repeated re-elections (term limits forced him to relinquish his state senate seat), and selection as most effective legislator do not add up to any substantive knowledge of government. Despite Latell’s intellectual vacancy when it comes to government, Dann contributed to Latell’s campaign when he ran for Congress against U.S. Rep. Timothy Ryan, D-Niles, in 2002. Despite Latell’s intellectual void when it comes to government, Dann last year said he was proud of Latell’s foresight during his terms in office.
Does it depend on what the definition of “is”, is?
