Do you think this is going to escalate, or degrade, into a barricade situation? You’ve seen it on Cops, and all of those reality cop shows. The criminal hides out in a house, won’t open the door, threatens the police and anybody else if they get to close. Police have to bring in a negotiator to end the standoff, and if that fails, they bring in the S.W.A.T. team with their armored personnel carrier, tear gas, flash bang, and the dogs. We’re not saying it does, but this has the potential trappings for an awesome standoff – be it political or tactical. The longer this drags out, the more entertaining. Heck, Marc Dann is kind of like the Bad News Bears, the original – not the remake, and we say let him play!
From Dispatch-Politics.com:
All statewide Democratic elected officials and legislative leaders are calling on embattled Attorney General Marc Dann to resign from office. But Dann is rebuffing the request.
“The work of the Office of the Attorney General matters more, and is far more important, than any one person,” Gov. Ted Strickland and a who’s-who of Democratic state leaders wrote to Dann. ”
In many, many cases it is all that stands between the people and the powerful. Sadly, we no longer have even the most remote hope that you can continue to effectively serve as attorney general and that is why we are asking for your resignation.”
The letter also said Democratic members of the House will begin impeachment proceedings if Dann doesn’t resign.
But in an e-mail sent at 11:43 a.m. to staffers in the attorney general’s office, Dann said he will will not resign.
Dann sends an email to his staff, telling them what he told the Governor.
I wanted to share with you what I told the Governor.
I told him that he and the other officeholders, as well as the members of the legislature, should continue to expect that we will continue to provide high-quality legal services to all of them. I told the Governor that we will continue to make our law enforcement partnerships work to protect the people of the State of Ohio.
I told him that our consumer protection and environmental protection and civil rights work will continue on behalf of the State of Oho
That is exactly what I am doing today. I am in the office, have rolled up my sleeves and am working on behalf of the people of State of Ohio.
I hope all of you will do the same.
