From the Omaha World-Herald:
The Nebraska Attorney General’s Office is looking into reports of gas stations cheating the public by substituting ethanol for regular fuel.
Attorney General Jon Bruning on Monday encouraged motorists who believe they have been victimized to contact his office’s Consumer Protection Division.
“We intend to prosecute those who deceive the public,” Bruning said. “I would ask Nebraskans to be patient as we investigate these claims, but rest assured we’re going to make sure people play by the rules.”
Bruning’s comments followed reports that staffers with the Nebraska Department of Agriculture’s weights and measures division were finding an unusually high number of stations attempting to cheat customers.
Division Administrator Steve Malone said beefed-up testing procedures have been uncovering three or four stations a week violating state laws.
