OK: Term Limits Bill Hits Snag

Money in this story is the Democrat A.G. getting all up in arms about having term limits be applied retroactively – thus keeping him from seeking re-election.  You’d think brother Drew Edmondson could find a job outside of state government.  From Tulsa World:

Senate Bill 1987 by Sen. Randy Brogdon, R-Owasso, and Rep. Trebor Worthen, R-Oklahoma City, would let voters decide if most statewide elected officials should be limited to serving 12 years. The governor would be limited to eight years.

Brogdon said the measure was in jeopardy after it was sent to a conference committee.

The Senate tied 23-23 when voting on whether to accept House amendments to the bill.

Lt. Gov. Jari Askins, a Democrat, was called to break the tie.

But Askins declined to vote because the state Constitution prevented her from voting on an issue that would directly affect her office.

The lieutenant governor can vote to break ties in the Senate, which is currently split between 24 Democrats and 24 Republicans.

Sens. Nancy Riley, D-Sand Springs, and Andrew Rice, D-Oklahoma City, did not vote on whether or not to accept House amendments.

Term limits are such a bad idea – glad this attempt to circumvent democracy has hit a snag!
