Wisconsin State Representative Steve Wieckert (R-Appleton) is proposing a bill that, if passed and signed by the Democrat Governor, would give companies tax breaks for hiring veterans.
If it passes, it would join a lengthening list of state veterans benefits that include free university tuition, expanded home loans, added tax breaks and even new license plates that honor those who served.
“(Wisconsin's effort) is the most dramatic change in the United States since 1946,” said John Scocos, Wisconsin veterans secretary.
The latest bill, authored by state Rep. Steve Wieckert, R-Appleton, would attempt to spur companies to hire returning veterans by offering tax credits of up to $8,000 a position.
Wieckert, who is in Africa this month helping build houses and climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, plans to introduce the plan in the Legislature in February.
It’s a good bill, and it sends the right signal to the folks overseas that the folks at home really do support them.
