CO: Dems Say If Bridges Fall Apart, It’s The GOP’s Fault

Golly, it looks like the stellar Colorado Democrat leadership pulled the equivalent of taking their ball and going home when it appeared the Republicans wouldn’t just roll over and give up.  Instead of crafting a bipartisan solution, Colorado House and Senate Democrats are the ones who played the politics card here.  From The Pueblo Chieftain:

f some of the state’s most battered bridges start falling down, it will be the Republicans’ fault for not helping find a way to pay for repairing them, Gov. Bill Ritter and other leading Democrats said Wednesday.

A day after the 2008 session ended, Ritter, Senate President Peter Groff and House Speaker Andrew Romanoff said they tried several times during the session to get Republicans to help come up with the millions of dollars needed for the state’s roads and bridges.

But the three men said that the GOP preferred instead to turn the matter into a partisan issue.

“This conversation broke down around politics,” Ritter said. “We tried to get the Republicans interested in looking at how we would put together different pots of money that looked at impact fees, registration fees. It was impossible to get that conversation moving.”
