From Mlive.com:
Attorney General Mike Cox has no plans to catch the Meijer Inc. political hot potato.
Despite a referral by the secretary of state’s office, Cox won’t look into Meijer’s secretly spending more than $100,000 to influence two votes aimed at helping the retailer build a store near Traverse City.
“The secretary of state’s decision to settle with Meijer bars our office from investigating or prosecuting any violations of the Michigan Campaign Finance Act,” Rusty Hills, spokesman for the attorney general’s office, said Tuesday.
Hills’ comments came after Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land tossed the Meijer case to Cox, having announced she concluded a three-month investigation with a record $193,000 fine against the Walker-based retailer.
