Wow can you imagine the stuff that will fill Granite State mail boxes – all without any idea who mailed the piece? Giddy up! From WPRI.com:
A bill being considered by the General Assembly would allow people to distribute political attack ads anonymously.
Current law requires pamphleteers to put their names and addresses on fliers, posters and advertisements that criticize particular candidates or work to defeat them.
But a bill headed for a House vote this week would repeal those requirements. Steven Brown, executive director of the Rhode Island affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union, says the U.S. Supreme Court has struck down a similar law in Ohio because people have a right to anonymous speech.
