Lawmakers are livid the school superintendent in Keansburg is retiring with a $740,000 severance package.
Members of the Assembly Education committee asked Attorney General Anne Milgram to investigate the planned payout. The state Education Department is already investigating.
Democratic Assemblyman Joseph Cryan calls the deal “a crime against New Jersey taxpayers.”
Republican Assemblywoman Jennifer Beck says no one should anyone paid with taxpayer dollars receive a half million dollar farewell.
Barbara Trzeskowski (trez-KOW’-skee) is due to receive pay for unused sick days and vacation time on top of pay equal to one month of her salary for each of the nearly 40 years she worked.
The state now caps sick time payouts for elected and appointed officials at $15,000.
