What refreshing change having a Republican in the A.G.s office will be for Montanans. It seems like more and more Democrat A.G.s are getting caught up in messes of their own making these days. There is something YOU can do to stop it – support he RSLC’s 50 state mission of supporting commonsense candidates for state and local office. Because you never know who you might stop. From Great Falls Tribune:
A pair of political newcomers squaring off for the Republican nomination in the state attorney general race are hoping their ideas and professional experience will give them what it takes to win the GOP nomination and go on to reclaim what has been a Democrat-held seat for 16 years.
Butte attorney Lee Bruner and Helena attorney Tim Fox are running in the June 3 primary for the right to battle one of a trio of Democrats (see Monday’s Tribune for more on the bids of Helena attorney Steve Bullock, state House Minority Leader John Parker of Great Falls and Bozeman Sen. Mike Wheat) in November’s general election.
Both Fox and Bruner are looking to land the seat of Attorney General Mike McGrath, who is leaving after serving a maximum of two terms.
The attorney general is the state’s top law enforcement post, overseeing more than 700 employees in the state Department of Justice.
Some of the candidates say they would use the attorney general position to fight crime and make Montana a safer place to live.
While Montana is already a pretty safe place to live—Montana Board of Crime Control statistics show that crime, on average, has been on the decline for the past three years, and crime overall is down 17 percent from 1998 levels —several of the candidates see room for improvement and have proposals to crack down on offenders.
