From the Plain Dealer Politics Blog:
A central Ohio trial lawyer is seeking to be the first candidate in this fall’s election for state attorney general.
Robert M. Owens, of Delaware, filed the necessary paperwork and about 1,100 signatures with the secretary of state’s office on Tuesday to be an Independent candidate. If more than 750 of the signatures check out to be valid Ohio voters, Owens will become a candidate in the November election.
Independent candidates had until 4 p.m. Tuesday to file while the Democratic and Republican parties have until Aug. 20 to name their candidates. And write-in candidates have until Sept. 3 to file.
Owens will compete for the chance to replace Democrat Marc Dann, who resigned on May 14 with two years remaining on his four-year term following an internal sexual harassment scandal that exposed office misconduct, cost four top managers their jobs, and led Dann to admit to an extramarital affair with a staffer.
