From the Dallas Morning News:
The Texas Democratic Party has settled a federal lawsuit against the state, with Attorney General Greg Abbott agreeing not to target people who collect legitimate mail-in ballots as part of his voter-fraud campaign.
Both sides claimed victory in the case, which was settled just before the U.S. District Court trial was set to begin Wednesday.
“This is an acknowledgment by the attorney general’s office that they were inappropriately investigating and prosecuting people for simply possessing [another person’s] mail-in ballot. And they won’t do it anymore,” said Matt Angle of the Democratic Party.
Mr. Abbott issued a statement saying the dismissal “marks an important victory for the integrity of the electoral process.”
“Election fraud is a serious crime that undermines our democratic system of government,” he said.
