From GreenvilleOnline.com:
Greenville County has felt the loss of two power-hitters in the state Legislature in recent years: the late Sen. Verne Smith and David Wilkins, the former House speaker who gave up that position to become the U.S. ambassador to Canada. Greenville voters should view upcoming races as an opportunity to get more depth on this county’s bench.
In the contested primaries, The Greenville News recommends Mark Willis in the District 16 Republican primary, Pete Smith in the District 18 Republican primary, Bill Wylie in the District 21 Republican primary, Gloria Haskins in the District 22 primary and Chandra Dillard in the District 23 primary.
In other House races that significantly affect this county, Harry Cato in District 17, Dwight Loftis in District 19, Bruce Bannister in District 24, Rex Rice in District 26 and Garry Smith in District 27 have no opposition in the June 10 primaries or Nov. 4 general election. Dan Hamilton, a Republican, also has no opposition in District 20 for the seat that his father is leaving.
