From the Morning Call:
The state attorney general’s office has agreed to probe questions from Northampton County Democratic Party Chairman Joe Long on ”potential election violations” last year by some Republican candidates.
County District Attorney John Morganelli was asked by Long in mid-May to begin an investigation, but Morganelli forwarded the request to the state because of conflicts. The state agreed to take the case about two weeks ago.
It would be the second election law case recently taken by the state involving county politics.
State investigators are already probing a case from last year’s primary election involving an anonymous election mailer against Republican district judge candidate Brian Monahan, and it has been the subject of testimony before a statewide grand jury, according to one witness who has testified before the panel.
